The time is drawing near, literally changing, as we prepare ourselves for a revival of all things good and warm in our lives, and cheap export, which is not so good, but it’s only 5 a can, I can’t say no. Back to the point of the post, I’ve been super lucky to catch up with Petro the creator of Love Saves Fridays (LSF), a new night of disco mayhem and funk madness, ‘erotic, exotic, and ecstatic…’ Read the full interview after the jump and the videos will make more sense and get down to The Republic this Friday night!
Hey Petro, thanks for doing this interview…What made you decide you wanted to start LSF?
My passion for good music, good people and good times on a Friday night was not being met in the clubs, I would find more passion and ecstasy was to be found outside the clubs and at the after parties of friends houses where I would be playing any thing from Hall & Oates, Donna Summers and just deep smooth ecstatic music. I would hear from my friends that they too were bored of played out disposable music that they would hear in most clubs, so I thought it was time we did something about that.
What will LSF be? Or at least what do you expect it to be?
A hidden gem of ecstasy and passion, a oasis of soul, funk and rhythms that holds a pulse that breeds life from the loins and onto the dancefloor: Erotic, exotic and ecstatic.
A club that adheres to the golden times of the 70’s, a ethos of decadence and delight. We seek a pure sound that is as warm as the hands that made it. We are a new generation of glamour a fuse to hot sex power.
And how’s it going to work, what kind of djs etc… are you going to have?
The DJ’s we have are some of the finest you will ever here any where in the world. I chose them for their exquisite taste and their exceptional ability
Reading the press release it sounds like some pretty old tunes are going to be spun on the decks. Why do you think people are turning back to older electronic music?
People are turning back to the soul they are sick of junk music, pop in dance music was OK for almost a decade of kitsch laughter but we feel empty and full of questions…the hang over has hit hard and we want to feel the beat through our veins we want to feel music that was made for love, sex and magik. We are starting to abstain from the trash we know seek a way to the heart this is after all the beat we really have been seeking all this time.
So now we have a standard Perthquake question…Which three artists, dead or alive, would you love to have play at LSF? And why?
Goblin: I would Love to have the newly reformed Italian band from the 70’s play for our horror themed night playing live to projections of Dario Argento’s Italian horror films from the 70’s which they composed most of the music for. It would be frightfully amazing! Performance.
Chic: one of the most incredible talented rhythm unites from the 70’s this band reinvented the term funk with their hi octane hit them were it hurts approach.
Amanda Lear: It was a hard choice which disco diva would I choose, to many amazing vocalists from that period to choose from anyone from Patti LaBelle to Donna Summers, but I couldn’t resist Amander Lear by far not the greatest vocalists but defiantly the most interesting and charismatic. With a long line of boyfriends that included Salvidor Dali, Bowie and Brian Jones and being on the cover of Roxy music’s for your pleasure this woman had grace and quirky charisma, with a delicacy of a heavy French accent and nonchalant delivery she sang about all the important things in Life: Diamonds, Gold, Fashion and Nymphomania,
Now I want to turn to your own djing…What’s your favourite kind of music to play when you dj as The Amazing Petro’s Rhythm Machina?
For Sexy I play anything from new wave, post punk, italo and Neu Deutsch Welle. For Love Saves Fridays I will be playing lots of disco, soul, psychedelic funk, glam rock and anything else that fits the vibe right.
And what got you into it?
Sound and vision
Has Perth had a vibrant scene in said style? Or will LSF change it forever?!
In the 90’s we used to spin some of this stuff at house partys and there was DJs like Joe 19 and Mega Mike that where known for their classic disco sets. It’s been a while since their has been a night to authentically play this music minus the disco cheese.
Love Saves Fridays will be the first night in Perth to play this type of music in this way… The way it was intended to be played.
Finally The Republic has been hailed as a new venue brining a fresh vibe to the Perth scene. Why do you think Perth is so desperate for a change?
It has been desperate for 3 years now I think people have finally had enough of sitting back listening to the soundtrack of their nights sounding like some car advert.
Thanks for your time, we can’t wait for LSF to start!
Thank You!
