Another Italian artist who seems to be making effortlessly cool tracks, I’ve had GIRRRL in high rotation since I’ve had it, without even knowing it was HMA, so bringing him to Perth has made me search out some of his other tracks, along the way I’ve been able to find out some neat bits and pieces about him. He’s worked with Bloody Beetroots on Puppets, has a cool remix of Congorock’s Runark and is being played by A-trak, Count and Sinden and Laidback Luke. Head to limelite to catch an artist with an impressive track record!

She’s nasty, she’s in your face, she’s coming to Perth to throw down a dj set, and she was a primary school teacher, that’s Peaches for you. With her new album I feel cream out for our listening pleasure Peaches continues to bring the ultra sexed up nasty world into our white middle class lives. Truck loads of f***ed up attitude!

Gorgonzola. Brie. Cheddar. Kill The Noise. There’s a common theme, but one of these things is not like the others. From all of the cheese Kill the Noise (KTN) through against the wall of my eardrums here’s what stuck and didn’t wash off by the morning: two (2) x Day N’ Night by Kid Cudi, two (2) x Riverside by Sidney Samson. Though obviously made for crackers, KTN did unleash some raw DMX fire on a populated Easy Tiger dance floor, but to withstand his two (2) hour set I would have needed a drink or two (7) which I didn’t have the cash for – but I’m not sure you could have drunk enough to cut loose to that set without still hating yourself a little bit.
The problem with KTN’s set on the night wasn’t a lack of diversity, originality, humour, class or energy – it was a heady mix of all five, like huffing Lynx and spray paint from a plastic bag (n.b.. alternate monthly Friday night event: huffing).
There’s a Russian word, poshlost, which has no English translation. It’s a feeling of plastic vulgarity, meaningless sex and trite emotions. Poshlost kind of sounds like everything I love about dance music, and KTN ruined it for one whole Friday night. He ruined being vulgar.
Post-script: I was actually a bit surprised – after hearing KTN’s remixes I thought that he had a pretty good ear for production and made music that was at least fashionable (danceable), even if boring.

Last night was so busy, I arrived at 9.30 with some of the Perthquake crew and the line was already past the edge of the building, I think there were a few disgruntled fans because they didn’t have tickets and weren’t going to get in, but if you didn’t buy a ticket for the whole 3 weeks they were on sale then I’m sorry but more fool you! Considering it was one of the

Perth’s favourite sound alternative have been lending their voice to the community since the 70’s and hope to see that community down the Rosemount to take in some tasty acts all the while helping these dedicated radio – oligists keep doing what it is they’re doing. With some of Perth’s best it should be an audio delight. Remember without RTR we’d be drowning in a sea of Celine Dion, Bon Jovi and Human Nature. Could you handle being responsible for that?

Kill The Noise has some absolutely stella tracks and remixes out there, and works with some big name electronic music artists, including Dj Craze, who is the other half of their record label Slow Roast Records. At the last minute I got an interview with Kill The Noise, right before he had to jump onto a plane to come to Australia. Don’t forget he’s playing this friday at Easy Tiger (Event info here).

Here are our two standard Perthquake questions…What got you into producing music?
It was a mix of inspiration that got me into production. I was really into industrial music when I was an adolescent and then through that avenue, I was introduced into dance music and raves. All through the mid to late 90’s I DJ’ed, mostly
I got one of the last interviews on this one… Mike Simonetti one of the label heads of Italians Do It Better, the New York label home to Glass Candy. He’s a dj in his own right and is playing for your enjoyment at LSF this Friday night at The Republic (event info here).

What got you into the music scene?

I had to put that video at the top of this post, it’s just too good, and it’s two years old, time flies since their first release on Bang Gang (Fun Punch EP), and after one more release with Bang Gang (Turbo Love EP) Bag Raiders are now on Modular for Shooting Stars. I think everyone has got their hands on the Shazam remix but here’s a link back to the post on old perthquake. Which I’ve just realised is poorly titled as it’s not really a Shazam track…

Yeah these guys are from Reading, my family’s home town, I probably shouldn’t admit that my family lived near reading but obviously I don’t mind. The top track We Are Rockstars, is about my favourite track of 2008, I didn’t find it early or anything like that, it was on the radio one day, and I fell in love…
