That’s right kids, Parklife will be back this year on the Queen’s birthday long weekend, September 27th 2009! The killer first announcement includes some fucking awesome acts, see the whole list after the jump.
I had to include the Boys Noize video at the top, even though he isn’t coming, it’s still Boys Noize Records! This is a rather large event, not only do you have the best locals playing, you’ve got three artists from Boys Noize Records! I was away when Boys Noize came over in January, but now I’m here and am ready for some more ear splitting, distortion filled electro. These artists are all really good at production and I’m itching to see their live stuff, I don’t want people to miss their bio’s so they’ve been placed after the jump.
This was an awesome night for all those who braved the weather to be outside at The Court. I caught the end of Bad Weather’s set, and heard Alan Braxe – Addicted, so my night started really well! Then when Future Frog hit the decks there was a cool mix of old and new including Cyndi Lauper – Girls Just want to have fun, Major Lazer – Zumbi, and Fever Ray – triangle walks (remix?). Then what was promised was delivered, a heavy bass night! Mikix played a two hour set of full bass, I didn’t know the tracks, although I’m sure he played his own track Movin’ Around and his remix of Stereoheroes – Washout, but other than that it was just the best beat all night long. The crowd went strong for nearly the whole set only fading away around 1, then Hickey got up and kept the crowd going, but I went home because I’m soft! haha good night.
Last night at SHAPE, Shazam and Shazam’s manager, Sleater Brockman were playing together for the first time ever in Perth. It was a night of absolute mayhem, where we heard rap, dancehall, house, dubstep and anything else thrown in there for fun, it was a trademark Sleater Brockman set, and you’ve been lucky enough to get a full interview with Sleater Brockman, it’s a pretty lengthy interview for perthquake but it has some cool responses in there that are definitely worth reading about! Read the review of the night here…
Two standard questions; Who or what got you interested in djing?
I was the typical teenager obsessed with music. I grew up in the northern suburbs of Sydney, there was this amazing record store called Discovery Records in Hornsby where
I didn’t go last year (the video looks like Don Diablo got a really good reception though), but this year the lineup is too impressive to miss, they’ve got some nice heavy stuff in there with Drop The Lime, Surkin, Zombie Nation and The Bloody Beetroots, some cool indie stuff with Bag Raiders, Knightlife, Canyons, Tim Sweeney and Grafton Primary, and a few house acts and most important Deadmau5, I love his song Funkenstein, it’s so corny…
We’ve only just had his producer visit, and now we get another great French artist, Brodinski. Stepping away from the current French electro sound and often sounding more like he’s from Berlin has gained Brodinski a large amount of attention. I think the video at the top is a good indication of what I’m talking about (it’s out soon), and it’s hilarious to watch. And you can also download the teaser below. Although my favourite tracks are still always the standard French electro ones…
Featuring an all out Block Party style event over 3 areas, LOW:FI promises to be the biggest underground music event to take place this year. To be held over three areas in Aberdeen St Northbridge, LOW:FI brings back the original street festival vibe utilising The Aberdeen Hotel, The Shed and featuring a main stage set up in Aberdeen Street providing the perfect arena for your Sunday afternoon! Full line up after the jump…
Pull My Strings is one of my favourite tracks, I’ve really enjoyed the bits and pieces I’ve heard from Kill The Noise of the blogosphere. He’s currently working on an album and a joint venture record label with Dj Craze. I think going to see this guy will be well worth it, based on his production and remixing alone there’s some smaching stuff in there.
Hardworking brother and sister duo Jaymes and Tegan Voltaire are ready for the launch of their D.I.L. I saw them last time they played republic, and there was a fair sized crowed getting their groove on to some well known Voltaire Twins tracks. I think the best part is, each time they perform there are new little tweaks and changes to tracks to make them even better than I previously thought.
This guy was voted #1 Dj by ITM and has supported Tiesto, Armin Van Buuren and Paul van Dyk. Also being signed to Armin Van Buuren’s label and doing production for a stack of different private enterprises, being a dj to watch in 2009 it’d be worth going along for a listen.
