What: Nick Curly, D'Julz, Aarin F, Nina Van Dyke
Where: Ambar
When: 20 November 2009
Cost/Ticket details: $25 + BF, moshtix.com.au
For me this is a pretty exiting gig, two giants of underground house/techno on the same bill on the same night. I have been following both of these guys ever since I got into house music. Nick Curly is the boss of the 8-bit imprint and has been credited with being responsible for the “Manheim sound”, which I would describe as a cross between house an techno, its loop based music with the groovyness of good house music. Then there is D’Julz, a Frenchman who’s style has been described as somewhere between house and deep techno and I think that is pretty accurate. I have a number of his sets on rotation at home and they are always full of tracks I end up chasing down for myself, really good quality 4/4. I also check his chart every month, as it is always full of absolute gold.
Both these guys are the complete package, excellent djs, excellent original production, expect a quality night.
So I have booked Saturday off work and will be down front and centre.

What: Two Fresh
Where: Ambar
When: 12 December 2009
Cost/Ticket details: 15, boomtick and doorsales
After seducing the crowd at their debut at Ambar last year, Two Fresh are locked in to return to the Home of the Underground and get one hell of a party started. Two Fresh are two brothers who are quite simply the hottest DJs in Australia - Jesse Desenberg (aka Kid Kenobi) and Myles Desenberg (aka Hugga Thugg). This spring the ARIA charts are Two Fresh indeed – their mix of Killa Queenz ‘Double Up’ continues to climb to the top and their first very own creation, ‘Too Fresh’ debuted at #33. Get set to hear the sound we all grew to know and love as they hit the scene – unashamedly ‘90’s reticent rave music complete with big beats, filter sweeps and freaking beautiful acid house synths. But prepare yourself for something new – ‘Too Fresh’ is the first taste and it’s delicious. It’s hip hop. It’s New Jack Swing. It’s retro in the coolest sense possible. It’s so fresh it’s too fresh.

What: Club Paradiso New Years Day feat Sebastian Ingrosso & Dirty South
Where: Burswood on Swan
When: 1 January 2010
Cost/Ticket details: 125+Bf, inthemix, moshtix
A festival designed for chilling out! This sounds really nice, there’s a gourmet BBQ, Day Beds, extra bathrooms, air conditioned rooms and full bar service. To me this sounds like a good Perth based festival, where you can avoid your standard festival bull shit and just have a nice time. And I haven’t yet mentioned the artists, which are all after the jump, but include Sebastian Ingrosso and Dirty South, plus heaps of locals to keep you entertained all day.
Shape is getting a live show this weekend! (Info here) Jamie Lloyd’s second album, Beware of The Light, is out and it is so good, I’m a very proud owner of it. It’s such a great mix of different styles and has that nice catchy sound too. I got to have a chat to Jamie about his work, which like that of Perth local FKNMIDAS is very varied, and the set up of his live show. The full interview is after the jump and don’t forget to head down to Shape to catch Jamie’s set this Saturday

Cheers!
What: GLITTER WOMB @ Republic
Where: The Republic
cnr of Wellington st & Shafto lane (Perth)
When: 20 November 2009
Cost/Ticket details: $5 on the door
Yes, children. Glitter Womb has moved to a more ’sexy’ neck of the woods due to lack of room down in freo.
Now we have a real chance to stretch our legs and give birth to a real great night.
There will be sets from your host FKNMIDAS – http://perthquake.com.au/blog/2009/11/fknmidas/
with support from the sonic wizardry of
MICKEY JUICE & PETROSEX
Enter through the “Shaft” lane from 10cm dilated —- till late and dance in this salubrious sanctuary, where people can be silly with out being threatened and berated by knobs.
It’s a special thing.
Sunday night was the best Sunday night I’ve had in a long time, well better than sitting on my ass at home watching Sunday Night. Seriously, it was worth going and those of you who didn’t missed out on some indie madness. Mickey Juice was throwing down some of the coolest disco I’ve heard, it actually made me like disco, nice beats, some scratching in there, and all perfectly melted together to make for some good dancing.
Tim and Jean jumped up and started one track, that didn’t go so well because nothing seemed to work part way through. Mickey Juice swears he didn’t kick out the cables, but he was looking pretty suspicious if you ask me! This gave Tim some time to make jokes about how old they looked (I think 12 was thrown around a bit), and have a good laugh at relying on technology. As the moments ticked by the problem was partially fixed allowing Tim to do a little keyboard solo, which was good fun and got me in the mood for dancing as they restarted their set. I think everyone there enjoyed it, there were lots of people dancing and having a good time. My friend Clare was having a little too much of a good time, but hey it was amusing!
Edwin hit the decks straight after Tim and Jean so I’m not sure if people figured out he was the main guy. Some people walked away so I thought they might have thought it was an interlude. It didn’t take long for them to come pouring back, because he threw down some very indie-chic songs, stuff from LCD Soundystem, La Roux and Mujava, but then he also had some really commercial stuff like Daft Punk, Missy Elliott, Dizzee Rascal, and Wiley, and then… he also included some pretty heavy stuff with SebAstian and Soulwax! The set was that perfect balance between crowd pleasing, varied and danceable, I think he would have satisfied what we’ve been talking about in the ‘Are They Talented?’ articles. Damn good Sunday night out, thanks Hickey!
Here’s another track from Perth singer Becci. This one is with Italian producer Fredrico Franchi, who did that track Cream, that was released on Ministry a few years ago, if you go listen to it, you’ll know it. It’s a bit of a contrast to the last track I posted (FKNMIDAS’ track), but it’s still pretty enjoyable.

Troy and I decided to start a new kind of review, well Troy thought of it and then I said that sounds like a good idea. It’s a David and Margaret style review. According to Josh from Shape I’m Margaret, but I’ve just left my name as Will for simplicity. Overall we had a really good night, all four dj sets we heard were different and the crowd seemed to enjoy the variety too. Don’t forget the Bang Gang 12″ record is out now. Full review after the jump…
Will: Well we could start with the support act Thunderclaps, I really liked Roland’s set, I don’t think shape gets to see such a cool mix of indie and electro very often.
Troy: Yeah I also dug it, love good indie/electro but yeah you’re right there’s not a whole lot of it going around at the moment. That A-Trak remix of Heads Will Roll gets kids on the d-floor like no man’s business. Unfortunately I was in heavy photog mode for that stage and didn’t take any notes on any other tracks but I remember dancing.
Glitter Womb, this Friday, at The Republic. FKNMIDAS has created a great night of disco, and then a load of everything and anything else that’s going to make you dance. I got to ask FKNMIDAS a few questions about his own production and Glitter Womb. There’s a track below that you have to listen to, it has already been repeated 3 times in about 12 minutes (the max it can be, as it’s just over 4 minutes long). Full interview after the jump…

What got you into producing music?
I have always written played music but I never really enjoyed the logistics involved in playing in bands. It’s weird, but I find that
