Yesterday began with a small pre-stereosonic drinks session at the new Perthquake house (Troy, I didn’t tell you about this but I think for convenience your house should be rented out to the members of Perthquake instead of being your house. Hope that’s okay?) When we turned up we walked straight passed a girl on a stretcher (it was 2.30pm) and Shazam claimed that his amazing dj set had sent her into a trance like state, now I feel like quite the fool for missing it! After a few minutes of knightlife dealing with a small crowd Dragonette hit the stage, for 20 minutes! That was pretty disappointing, but they played Take It Like A Man, and they threw some Justice into one of their tracks, so although it was super short, it was still good.

I didn’t go watch Hudson Mohawke, so yes I didn’t get my cool on (here’s a good point to say I probably should have gone to see them because I think I heard dubstep nearly all day and a break would have been nice!), instead I wondered toward Renaissance Man, and caught the end of Ajax, who does do very good blog house dj sets. Including crowd favourite Parlez-vous Francais? and managing to put in every djs favourite track, Positif. Ajax ended with, or Renaissance Man started with one of the most heavy dubstep tracks I’ve heard. I did leave to get food, and with the way the sound was set up I can’t be certain I heard this but… I’m sure the Sharkslayer remix of  Pobum Coco was played. This is my favourite wobbly bouncy track. Whilst on the issue of not knowing what was being played I’d like to say the sound in the Outrage tent just didn’t cut it with the big crowd, I’m not sure if it was lack of speakers or the way they were set up, but standing a little way back allowed us to have a normal level conversation. Or was this just me thinking this? Opinions would be nice…

Next I thought I’d see half of Alter Ego’s set and half of Drop The Lime. I think I did it the right way round because I heard Chicken Shag and Why Not? from Alter Ego, and they did great extended versions of them with plenty of extra blips and bleeps. When I went over to Drop The Lime I did get to see him do some live singing on Hear Me, and some other tracks I didn’t know, but it was good to see because Alex Darkly had said he might sing! By the end of his set the Outrage tent was so packed and sweaty and everyone was pushing because of the… Bloody Beetroots!

When I go to a festival I expect to be pushed around a bit, to have drinks and water thrown on me and to sweat more than I do in a week. I really don’t like it when people get into the middle of a crowd and then get angry/upset about being pushed around. People want to go wild, and party hard, and there are areas for people to stand and watch and take it easy, USE THEM! When the Bloody Beetroots started I was being forced to jump up and down, and this was pretty much the only reason I went to see them, to watch people go crazy! Their set was pretty standard with heaps of banging electro, but they did play the Trumpdisco remix of Right Here Right Now, so represent Australia!

After having a quick drinks break we went back to see Surkin, and I think he was the highlight of my day. Playing lots of noisy electro and working with a growing crowd (preparing for Crookers) he really played a smashing set. Best part; playing white knight, standing up and doing the Tiesto pose! haha He also pulls of cool really well, always a cigarette in his hand, just looking chilled out and playing awesome tune.

We stayed for a bit of Crookers, who did play Thunderstruck and everyone seemed to like that, plus Drop The Lime came back and did some more ‘mcing,’ well just shouting ‘you wanna fucking party perth’ etc… We then wanted to see if Deadmau5 wore his Australia head, and he came out on a golf car? Not sure what that was about, but it was a long into song. I was happy once I’d seen that so we finished with Bag Raiders and their blog electro (Pon De Floor anyone!?) and then Grafton Primary which I didn’t really get into, but they played I Can Cook, so I was happy.

Pretty good day overall, but Surkin was my standout favourite. Hope you had fun too!
