Does It Offend You, Yeah?

Sorry you’re not in the picture Chloe, I couldn’t find a high enough quality shot of all 5 of you! Does It Offend You, Yeah? are playing Future Music Festival (event info here), and they’re super excited to be touring again, maybe James will break his leg if we’re lucky?! I think I’m most excited about seeing these guys as I didn’t see them when they played Parklife 2008, and I know they played new material then. Now they have that new material polished and ready to go, with the album finished the day I was talking to Dan. They have had a pretty fun past time, running underground raves, enjoying too much ‘excessive consumption’ and now touring with their idols The Prodigy. You can read the full interview after the jump…

In your press release I read you guys ran a club night in Reading, what was that all about?

Yeah we used to break into houses and hire out PAs, so we had the actual club nights and underground raves. That was quite a good few years before we started DIOYY, when we were in our late teens

Scenic

There’s a very cool Perth blog I actually knew about, but didn’t really know about, until three weekends ago. It was an uneventful night at shape, except towards the end of the night I had a young guy come up and ask if I was the Perthquake guy, I get really excited when this happens because I feel like people know what Perthquake is, and trust me it doesn’t happen often. I even dream that one day I will be a Perthonality… Anyway that’s besides the point, this young man was one of the five guys who contribute to Scenic. It’s a Perth music blog letting you know about the coolest electronic music there is.

I’ve been regularly visiting and have also been pleasantly surprised at the selection of tracks. I’d say it’s mainly nu-disco, french house and indie dance but then I’m rubbish with genres! I highly advise you to go to Scenic because it’s well worth the few moments of your time, and like me you might even find some cool new tracks to listen to. Also keep your eyes out for Tabularaza (contributors to Scenic) who will be playing the Republic next Friday night).

Tabularaza

In the post below I talked about enjoying Kasper Bjorke’s music, well he’s got nothing on these two Perth lads! Adam Tucker and Eric Harrison are Tabularaza and are also part of the Scenic blog crew (site here). They’ve been producing disco/dance tracks for about a year and have gained the attention of Sweat It Out and Theee Bang Gang. Below are three tracks that you can stream or download for free! I recommend these tracks, because they’re f-ing awesome, “Prime Prime Prime” is a favourite. And… you may see these guys dj soon at the Republic, hint hint!

Kasper Bjorke Clip

This is the new video clip for one of my favourite artists at the moment, Kasper Bjorke. His album is going to come out this Friday, titled “Standing on Top of Utopia.” The clip is for “Efficient Machine,” which was performed with Tomas Hoffding from WhoMadeWho. In the clip a teenager builds an ‘efficient machine,’ because he appears to have been beaten up, but you never see him kick the bullies ass! Other than that it’s pretty good fun.

Bart B More

Playing at limelite this Friday is Bart B More an up and coming Dutch producer who’s worked with The Crookers, Tiesto and been remixed by the likes of Curses! His music is definitely hard to categorise, as he moves been deep house, fidget, electro and pretty much whatever he feels like! I’d recommend catching his set this Friday. Full interview after the jump…

How was the US tour?

It went really well, there were good crowds and there is lots of support in the US. It was good to see that the crowds were enjoying the European house sound more.

Is your hectic touring schedule to support current release? Or just for fun?

Nah it’s just for the sake of doing a tour, more of the back of many remixes.

Music review

The naked truth

Generally Sunday was a great day, despite a couple of acts withdrawing from the line-up there was plenty to keep me entertained. Gossip and Basement Jaxx were standout favourites (please read after the jump for the reasons why!), and I heard lots of people enjoyed Salt N Pepa. There seemed to be a general love of cheesy pop music throughout the day, with The Black Eyed Peas, Will.i.am, Beyonce, and even Survivor getting a few plays.

We started with Kid Cudi, who had an enormous crowd in front of a small stage, but maybe that added to the atmosphere of excitement. He belted out a few tracks in a row, with “Enter Galactic” drawing a huge response. even more than when he played “Day n Night.” I think a highlight of his set was when he screamed out I’m Kid Cudi, or something to that effect and everyone went mental? I think they already knew he was Kid Cudi, not sure how that works. He finished with “Pursuit of Happiness,” but the crowd had already began to leave to see Salt N Pepa, so the atmosphere was killed for my favourite track. The full review is after the jump…

Dj Rohan Smith

This weeks mix comes courtesy of an old Perthquake friend, and ex-perthquake contributor Dj Rohan Smith. Rohan’s played a number of shows at Habitat, and is a damn fine dj! This mix should entertain you even if you know nothing about minimal, tech and prog house. The full tracklist is after the jump…
