“Do you think Housemeister would’ve been heart broken?” was a question poised to me shortly before I arrived at Villa. It was one worth considering too. At what was initially advertised as a headline gig for the Berlin based producer/DJ/artist on his first visit to our fine land mass, the “special guest” for the night (whos identity didn’t take a great deal of brain matter to pick) was surely the major selling point for the majority of the capacity crowd and this resulted in the “rebel without a pause” filling the warm up slot. Whatever their reasons for attending, electro lovers were in for a rocking party on yet another music saturated Friday night (go Perth!). Break it down for the full review.

Stepping up to the wheels of steel at midnight with semi-sideways cap, square glasses and a cigerette constantly dangling from his mouth Housemeister had the uber-cool electro DJ look down pat. He didn’t waste any time either, kicking things into overdrive from the get go. The BPM was high and Housemeister displayed excellent tune selection, moving through funked up electro, warping acid basslines and a bit of 90s rave. Being a shit hot producer, it’s a shame his technical skills weren’t a bit more up to scratch as quite a few mixes were noticably off time and this may have been the reason for the slight lack of interest from a good chunk of the punters. A few of his more well known tunes, including Inordertodance, Beef Jerky and Who Is That Boys? did manage to lift the vibe and by the time the Boy who brings the Noize was ready to have his turn Villa was sufficiently lubed up (this also could’ve been the heat) and ready to bang it out.

With a beaming smile and his feet shuffling around behind the decks with as much enthusiasm as those on the dance floor below him, it was apparent that banging it out was exactly what Boys Noize was here to do. Opening with Kontact Me and slamming into Starter it was a joy to watch the jam packed crowd bounce from the upper level. Energy levels remained off the charts throughout the set and it was pleasing to hear a set not completely the same as the one he laid down at the recent Future Music Festival. Plenty of new bits and pieces and tunes from the Power! album were mixed in with Boys Noize classics (and dare I say, standard features of his sets) including Oh!, &Down and Arcade Robot. Transmission was a highlight as was the remix of Justice’s Phantom Part II. The More’s instrumental remix of Reel 2 Reel’s I Like To Move It along with teasers of D.I.M’s Is You and Daft Punk’s Technologic kept things interesting and the set came storming home with the My Moon My Man remix, Jeffer and the same hyper speed banger he left us with just a couple of weeks prior.

The ruptuous applaused received by the lanky german DJ was well deserved and when Prizzy took to the controls he kept things on the same page launching straight into The Bloody Beetroot’s Warp and although the numbers dropped off due to the exhaustion brought on by Boys Noize, I’m sure he kept the diehards entertained right through til dawn.
