Next Friday at Limelite world-known club night Kiss Da Funk is gracing our shores, event info here. Bobby Tee is the creator of Kiss Da Funk and is a well known house dj/producer in his own right. I asked him a few questions about his mega-hit “Come One,” (sampled Faithless’ “We Come One”), and about Kiss Da Funk and it’s success/exportation to Australia. Full interview after the jump…

First of all nice work on the “Come One” track, that was a phenomenon last year. What made you and Juan Kidd choose to remake Faithless’ “We Come One?”
Thanks very much, i really appreciate it. we wanted to make a track that had a massive festival vibe to it and the faithless track fitted the bill perfectly. we put the track together
The Democracy Sunday’s have had a great success in Perth with the last instalment featuring Gui Boratto at a packed out Geisha. Over the Anzac day long weekend, it would just be logical that this edition of Democracy Sunday’s would follow in the former’s footsteps – and that it did.
Saturday night at the Rosemount got me back to my musical roots. I haven’t seen an indie-pop/rock act in a long long time and it was f-ing fantastic. The lack of rock music in my life was not the only reason for the success of the night. Seeing some great Perth talent really helped too. For anyone like me who doesn’t often go to rock gigs, please please please go to The Rosemount some time soon. Despite the layout staying the same it just seems better for live music than it did before. Have a listen to the Philly Jay’s most popular track “I Don’t Want To Party (Party)” while you read to the rest of the review after the jump…
This weekend marks the Australian debut of the recently announced #1 UK Festival, Creamfields Music Festival. This Sunday, Perth punters will be out in full force to probably experience the last of the outdoor festivities. Be sure to catch the likes of Steve Angello, Ferry Corsten, Marco V, Joris Voorn, Dave Clarke and many more international lineups at the Claremont Showgrounds.

Knowledge Music proudly presents DJ PREMIER – Infinitely prominent American hip hop producer and DJ, Premier is the instrumental half of duo GANG STARR together with MC GURU bringing up the lyrical side. Originally from Houston, he has lived in Brooklyn, New York virtually his entire professional career. Many fans and hip hop purists consider him to be the greatest hip hop producer ever. He is hailed as an architect of “Hardcore East Coast hip-hop known by its heavy drums and sparse loops.”
THE SOURCE magazine named DJ Premier one of the 5 greatest producers in hip-hop history, while editors from About.com ranked him as #1 in their “Top 50 Hip-Hop Producers” list.
Introduced to DJing while attending school at Prairie View A&M in Prairie View, Texas. DJ Premier’s original stage name was Waxmaster C, although he had already changed it to DJ Premier after he had relocated to Brooklyn and joined Gang Starr. He chose the name Premier because his mom gave it to him. She said he is always trying to be the first at everything so it should be “Premier”.
In an interview with XXL Magazine, DJ Premier was asked how his sound evolved, to which he replied, “Marley Marl is my number one inspiration. Jam Master Jay, Mixmaster Ice and UTFO. Grandmaster D and Whodini. DJ Cheese, Grandmaster Flash, Kool Herc, Afrika Bambaataa. Jazzy Jay, even Cut Creator. Seeing them do what they do. It’s black music, it’s black culture, it comes from the ghetto. How can you not relate to ghetto people when that’s the rawest form of blackness? Even though it’s not a good place in regards to the economy and how bad people have it in the neighborhood, the realism’s there, and that’s what we were born out of. So I very much pay respect by doing the same type of music in return.”
Having worked with more people than most dedicated rap fans know about, Premier is responsible for the production of Jeru the Damaja’s first two albums, has done tracks with M.O.P., KRS-One, Group Home, NAS as well as JAY-Z.
I found this while writing an interview for Tiga. I know it’s from last year, but I can’t stop laughing about it. It’s the best staged music interview I’ve seen. It’s quirky, but not stupid pointless pathetic quirky, just the right amount. The entire Tiga persona is a perfect amalgamation of a dance music scene-ster and arrogant musician. I hope you enjoy the 16 minutes as much as I did. Part two is after the jump…
