Gold Panda – Lucky Shiner

Artist: Gold Panda

Album: Lucky Shiner

Label: Spunk/EMI

Release Date: October 1 2010

Rating: 9/10

The opening track, You, off Gold Panda’s Lucky Shiner album drew me into a world of swirling emotion and sent shivers down my spine, this never happens on first exposure. I do have a soft spot for experimental electronic music, and with my current admiration for anything chill I’d say that was a major player for being drawn in so easily. For love after the jump…

Mayhem @ The Deen

What: Mayhem Festival

Where: The Deen

When: 31 October 2010

Cost/Ticket details: 79+bf perthquake store

Mayhem “The Broken Beat Festival” is back for its 2nd year running, and this year we are mixing it up a little. Mizhap Productions have been hard at work to deliver what we think, is going to be an out of this world experience.

Now let’s talk artists. For the hip hop heads we have EVIDENCE from DILATED PEOPLES bringing nothing but solid rhymes all the way from sunny California, and TOTAL ECLIPSE from X-ECUTIONERS with the tricks on the turntables. On the drum n bass tip we have heavyweight pioneers DRUMSOUND & BASSLINE SMITH, CHRIS.SU and B-COMPLEX. For the dub heads we have some of the biggest names in dubstep right now, BAR9, alongside legendary BABYLON SYSTEM, who really need no introduction to anyone who knows what’s up in the dubstep scene, and who can forget SPL, drum n bass turned dubstep producer, from the massive hollow point recordings. Last but not least to satisfy the breakbeat lover, we have SKOOL OF THOUGHT, owner of against the grain records, watch this guy as he destroys the dance floor.

The event takes place on Sunday 31th October 2010 at The Deen, with a huge HALLOWEEN THEME, the venue will be decked out like nothing you have seen before. There will be prize giveaways for best costume including tickets to the next Mizhap Productions event and bar cards up to the value of $100.

Bass Kleph set to shakedown

International DJ. Producer. Label owner. Radio host. Bass Kleph has a finger in every musical pie in town, including having one of the hottest, most in demand, individual sounds of now. It’s his new take on a jackin’ tech/electro house and he’s set to unleash it on the Villa sound system this weekend. I’v heard nothing but good things about this guy who’s latest Shakedown remix was recently crowned as the highest selling track on Beat Port for the year to date!

Tickets $15 at the Villa Doors.

The Hundred in the Hands – Self Titled

Artist: The Hundred in the Hands

Album: The Hundred in the Hands

Label: Warp/Inertia

Release Date: 1 October 2010

Rating: 8/10

Familiarity is going to be the key to this albums’ success. From the first listen I felt like I already knew the riffs and melodies, this probably sounds terrible, but in fact it makes this album amazing. The Hundred in the Hands have the amazing Yeah Yeah Yeahs-esque sound, I say that in the broadest sense, it’s really just fleeting moments of similarity. This is a well put together piece of pop-mastery, draws you into the journey and its hard to let go. Full review after the jump…
