No-one to hold Hostage…

Hostage would have had The Bakery cooking at full heat if there was a crowd to enjoy it on Friday night. With about 50 people turning up in total, Jake and I were deeply disappointed  that the well acclaimed Hostage didn’t get a warm welcome to Perth. This is a major problem for Perth, when a great artist is booked, and no one comes out to see them. Full review after the jump…

Reboot

Reboot aka Frank Heinrich, is all about the “frankfurt sound”. His productions are nothing short of groovy, dedicating his sound to the dark emphatic to the dazzingly polyrhythmic. After a crazy Ibiza summer season playing at clubs at Pacha and Cocoon Club. He is bound down under to headline the Stereosonic Festival to the amuse of all Techno Vikings out there (event info here, tickets here). Reboot manages to share a moment of his time with Perthquake. Read it all after the jump…

Aeroplane – We Can’t Fly

Artist: Aeroplane

Album: We Can’t Fly

Label: Eskimo/Balance

Release Date: 29th October

Rating: 9/10

I’m going to be honest, when this arrived in the mail I started jumping up and down with excitement. Therefore, my opinion may be a little biased. Read on with that in mind… The good news is I haven’t been disappointed, in fact my expectations have been surpassed. Aeroplane has been able to walk through so many different genres in something predominantly ‘nu-disco.’  More Aeroplane love after the jump…

Huffing and puffing

What happens when you take three of the most exciting, forward thinking and hugely popular bass music artists, put them in a dark room with a few hundred kids ready to rinse, give them a set of decks and let them throw it down on a Friday night in Perth? Knowledge Music must have a gypsy  holed up in their offices, as they seemed to predict the unfolding of this situation with extreme accuracy, and had the forethought to aptly title the event, The Blow Out. Yep, shit certainly got hectic as Headhunter, Opiou and Doctor P served up supreme sets and the capacity Shape crowd took to it like junkies to clean needles. Break it down for the full review.

DJ Vadim

Next Wednesday the 3rd of November prolific independent producer and beat-taster DJ Vadim (real name Vadim Peare aka Daddy V), will touch down at Shape nightclub to inject our nightlife with a dose of soulful, reggae-infused, instrumental hip hop (event details here). Last seen in Perth on New Years Day supporting one of his newfound favourite artists Fat Freddy’s Drop, this time we can expect to rock out to an intimate headline appearance from the turntablism legend who has been described as “one of the few artists creating genuinely new work in the hip hop field”.

Music artist

Concord Dawn

Tonight sees Matt Harvey, one half of New Zealand dnb heavyweights Concord Dawn, return to Perth once again to promote the release of the group’s latest album The Enemy Within (due for release on the 1st of November). Event info can be found here.

Perth to be held Hostage on Friday

This Friday the 29th of October, Hostage will be making his way over from Edinburgh, Scotland with a crate filled with some of his signature face-grinding 2step dubstep infused electro.

Villa Loco

Last Friday night, Villa was transformed into an ostentatious and energetic playground for the return of the infamous Circo Loco brand to bring us a little taste, fresh from their DC-10 home in Ibiza. With Jamie Jones and Davide Squillace to headline the event, punters were sure to be set for a night of hedonistic partying and quality dance music.

Music artist

Hippo Camp

This Saturday night Hippo Camp is playing Maybe Zombies Will Help at The Norfolk Basement (event info here). Since you’ll be coming along I thought I’d better let you know what I know about Hippo Camp, and maybe then you’ll understand why he’s playing! For starters her runs Warm Kitten (website here), where you can get some hand picked gems to listen to, good way to keep in the loop about all things low tempo, funky and enjoyable. Hippo Camp isn’t a one trick sea-pony (snap!) he’s got a fair bit of talent as a dj, if you want some proof take a listen to his Spring 2010 mix below.
Spring 2010 Mix by Hippo Camp

It doesn’t stop there either, Hippo Camp’s solo production and production work with Odim is also pretty exciting. I’ve linked his latest track – but I encourage you to go check them all out on his soundcloud page.
