What better way to celebrate Australia Day than with the country’s favourite DJ-duellers, Stanton Warriors? They’re returning to Perth for a dooms night at Villa Nightclub.

Stanton WarriorsWhat is that sound? Garage twisted beyond all recognition, dropped with speaker-shattering basslines and massive beats all done to splintering, blistering, devastating effect.

It’s the sound of the Stanton Warriors. The Stantons go from strength to strength and are without question the biggest force in breakbeat. Dominic B and Mark Yardley have broken more records than any other broken beat act:

* Best DJ Breakspoll Awards: 2009

* Best Compilation/Mix Breakspoll Awards: 2009

* Best Breaks Artist Beatport Music Awards: 2009

* Biggest selling breakbeat album of all time: Stanton Sessions

Kaskade @ Villa

What: Kaskade

Where: Villa

When: 22 January 2011

Cost/Ticket details: 27+bf perthquake store

It doesn’t get much more US House than a DJ born in Chicago. Yes, Kaskade is the pure definition of US House.

KASKADEKaskade moved to Utah to attend uni and became a dormroom DJ while buying and operating his own record store, Mechanized Records. As you do. In May 2000, Kaskade moved to San Francisco and began working as an A&R assistant for Om Records. Om never hesitated with Kaskade; within a year he had his first single out on the label, ‘What I Say’.

In the Moment saw Kaskade’s first top 10 single with ‘Steppin’ Out’ reaching #5 on Billboard Magazine’s Hot Dance Club Play chart. The fourth single to be released from the album, ‘Everything’, reached #1 on Billboard Magazine’s Hot Dance Club Play.

Kaskade’s fourth solo album Love Mysterious was released in September 2006, spouting singles ‘Be Still’, ‘Stars Align’ and ‘Sorry’ – the remix for which was nominated for a Grammy in 2008 for Best Remixed Recording.

Kaskade now releases under Ultra Records – most recently working with Canadian house/electronic DJ/artist Deadmau5 to produce tracks on Strobelite Seduction, including the first single (released as an EP) ‘Move For Me’, as well as ‘Angel On My Shoulder’ and ‘I Remember’ – a massive hit in the UK, US and, of course, Australia.

For Kaskade, it’s all about love. The proof is in Dynasty, his sixth album; love has never been more apparent in his sound. The first single, the title track, is a gritty production, smoothed out by the vocals of Haley, known to Kaskade fans the world over as the ethereal singer of ‘I Remember’ and ‘Move For Me’. There’s also the track ‘Only You’ which features production work from none other than Tiësto. The result is a blend of Tiësto’s signature pace of trance and Kaskade’s soulful swagger meets big floor Euro. As easily as Kaskade is able to work with a major like Tiësto, he can flip it right back into the indie space. ‘Fire In Your New Shoes’, featuring Dragonette’s Martina, delivers a rock-riffed, downtown cool, electro-pop sound sure to resonate all summer with the big city set.

This is beautiful, soulful music created by one of the world’s best – in fact, Kaskade was voted #35 in DJ Mags Top 100 DJs in 2010.

He’s hotter than ever.

Democracy pres. The Quickening @ Ambar

What: Democracy pres. The Quickening

Where: Ambar

When: 21 January 2011

Cost/Ticket details: 25 door sales

After 3 years and 39 International DJs, Democracy announces its LAST EVER show for Perth…featuring Radio Slave (Rekids, UK) and SOS The Collective – Omid 16B and Demi (SexOnWax, MOS UK).

Radio Slave – aka Matt Edwards – is a man whose talent doesn’t seem to end. His productions, remixes and DJ sets have only one aim: to make you move – inside and out. Originally from Brighton in the UK, Radio Slave re-located to the natural home of the electronic movement this past Decade, Berlin, in 2008.

Radio Slave’s productions never miss a beat because his ideas never stop. His Rekids ‘No Sleep’ EP series, beginning in 2006 and currently on Part Six, are always highly anticipated and highly coveted. Classed as one of the greatest remixers of all time, Radio Slave’s remixes – including artists like Talking Heads, Danny Tenaglia, Kylie Minogue, Carl Craig, Trentmoller, DJ Hell, Tiefschwarz, Gwen Stefani, Le Noir, Sir Elton John and Sasha – deconstruct and reconstruct the original inspiration into explosive compositions that become his own and step up the game with each re-work.

Radio Slave holds a quarterly label residency at Panorama Bar in Berlin (recently voted number one club in the world), DJs at Fabric exclusively in London and tours the world every week – including Europe, USA, Asia, Ibiza (gigs at Cocoon and Space this summer) and every festival that counts.

SexOnSubstance, The Collective: in its present format is a duo with Omid ‘16B’ Nourizadeh and Demi Hajigeorgiou. With a common goal to move people, the innovative duo exist in an exciting digital era when live remixing, personal edits and inimitable shows all allow for differentiation – and this is where the dazzling SOS trailblazers shine with their icy-hot approach to djing in the 21st century!

From their infamous boat parties in London & Ibiza to sellout WMC marathon sessions in Miami, along with a 3hr Essential Mix for BBC Radio 1 (a first since its inception) to add to their acclaimed triple disc opus mix for Balance on EQ Recordings in 2008 – with SOS, sparks fly and good vibes abound, as they work their wonky voodoo, full of love and energy.

Their sonic blueprint was previewed to the world in February 2010 on a double-CD compilation for Ministry Of Sound. ‘MOS presents SOS’ featured as the compilation of the month in both Tillate and DJ magazine.

Sponsored by industry giants such as Pioneer, Ableton, Roland and Native Instruments, their forthcoming debut artist album is eagerly anticipated by industry and fans alike. The eyes of the world are now focused on SOS and their best is yet to come…

Laidback Luke @ Salt On The Beach

What: Laidback Luke

Where: Salt On The Beach

When: 26 January 2011

Cost/Ticket details: 60+bf perthquake store

Laidback Luke said to inthemix: “I think we reached the point where house music and dance parties are way too serious. We should go back to having crazy, stupid fun with our friends.” Luckily we were listening!

The Limelite crew in conjunction with Sunset Events is throwing the ultimate soiree this summer: LAIDBACK LUKE at Salt on the Beach. The only way to celebrate Australia Day is with a heaving beach party and you’re invited!

Always smashing it out for festival fans it was time we made Laidback Luke the star of the show. Criss-crossing the globe for sell out shows and releasing bangers via his own Mixmash Records there is no stopping the Dutchman. His malleable house sound has seen him align with a range of labels, with upcoming releases on Dim Mak and Defected. Hell bent on “revolting against any musical stigma” whats not to like?

To keep things fresh we have added the pop diva Zoe Badwi to the mix. The songstress has been making serious waves this year with ARIA chart toppers “Release Me” and “Free Falling” and recently enthralling an adoring crowd at Stereosonic with her sultry voice.

To ice the cake we have rounded up a swagger of westcoast talent so expect banging tunes from your favourite local djs. Get out your thongs and dance from day to night with your LIMELITE crew. Don’t miss all the fun in the sun … minus the sand at Australia Day’s most epic event by the sea.

Gold Panda @ The Bakery

What: Gold Panda

Where: The Bakery

When: 8 January 2010

Cost/Ticket details: 5+bf The Bakery

Hailing from the UK, Gold Panda is a rising star of electronic music. With a reputation as a remixer du jour he has worked with the likes of Bloc Party and HEALTH, and draws comparisons to contemporary Four Tet.  Gold Panda’s debut album, Lucky Shiner is a rapturous sonic collection incorporating multitudes of styles and influences to create a glitchy electronic sound with pop tendencies. He creates his sound by layering obscure samples, glittering melodies and deconstructed hip-hop beats with soothing oriental textures.

GOLD PANDA will be joined by Australian beat-scene wunderkind WOOSHIE, playing his new and improved LIVE set, and DJs Dave Miller (PVT/WARP) and {move} family man, Ben Taaffe.
