Huge Vintage Sale @ The Bakery

Tara and Liz, the girls behind The Huge Vintage Sale, have changed to an exciting new venue for the new year. They’re bringing oodles of vintage to Northbridge so you can shop amonst the astro turf furniture at The Bakery. If you’ve been to one of their sales before, you’ll they are very deserving of the ‘Huge’ in their title, but more importantly it’s the quality of what’s on offer and the freakin’ amazing prices (nothing over $50!). Head to the FACEBOOK GROUP for more info. Everyone who joins the attendance list goes in the draw to win vouchers so it could be even cheaper.

Plus, The Bakery is a freakin’ sweet venue, so all-in-all it’s a bloody good way to spend a Sunday arvo.

HUGE VINTAGE SALE PERTH

If you like Vintage I have a funny feeling you might already know about this, but if you haven’t you’re in for a treat. Roughly once a month, at a town hall somewhere in our fine city, a bunch of lovely vintage-obssessed ladies put the fruits of their labours out on display for you to add to your collection. Amazing quality stuff for amazing prices, you’d be a fool to miss it. In case you hadn’t noticed, vintage is pretty much the coolest thing you can wear these days. Anyway enough of my uneducated babbling, here’s the deets:

Faux Pas

Perthquake friends Faux Pas have some neat new additions to their catalogue for the winter 2010 collection I know we don’t really do anything fashion related anymore, but Cam Duff (contributors) is a keen supporter and the Faux Pas boys make stuff I really enjoy. Holly (ex-contributor) did some ground work for Perthquake to see what was happening at camp Faux-Pas, who don’t seem to be putting many feet wrong at the moment. Full interview after the jump…

Since the launch of the label has Faux Pas evolved, and can you tell us about your current designs?

Yeah Faux Pas has definetly evolved, we still design whatever we want and whatever inspires us at the time but technically what

Hooting good time

I think Saturday night was the coolest house party/event I’ve ever attended in Perth. From the half pipe dance floor to the make shift lounge and Carribean food van. Oh and the free beer, champagne, punch and Carribean BBQ chicken from said food van. ha! And… all the money went to Haiti aid relief. I’m not sure if I really need to say anything more about how great the set up was, but the Djs were great too. Especially one of Perth’s best dj duos Work Experience Djs. They played some cool tracks that built a great dancefloor even though they were interupted a few times for prize giveaways. That’s right, there were prizes too! Work Experience Djs were followed by Lost Boy who had some pretty solid techniques for weaving in and out of a few tracks, great work with the remix of Delphic’s “Doubt.” I’d say it was the What Kind of Breeze Do You Blow remix, but not sure if that’s correct. Anyway it was an awesome night and I’d keep an eye out for the next party!

Just in time for Christmas, Unwrapped: the marketplace returns for its final event of 2009 on Saturday 19 December. Set to be the biggest Unwrapped yet, the market will be bursting at the seams with Perth’s most unique and exciting gifts made by over 70 of WA’s hottest emerging designers. The wide array of products available, ranging from fashion and jewellery to art and skin care, makes this event the perfect opportunity to ease your present‐buying woes, and perhaps even purchase a well deserved gift or two for yourself!

The star studded line up of participating designers has just been announced and includes Igor and Katja, Ann Nie from Tu, Isobel Macaulay from Pinch and Spoon, silversmith Helena Bogucki and Jack Flanagan from Bisous. Silversmith Helena Bogucki returns to Unwrapped for the second time this year, “The Unwrapped concept is genius! Bringing together local designers under one umbrella has provided an ideal opportunity for my range of contemporary jewellery to pollinate new audiences and create new industry contacts.”

Recently launched menswear label Bisous is a newcomer to Unwrapped and designer Jack sees it as a great opportunity to engage with his target market. ”This is just the beginning for Bisous. We’re excited to be involved with Unwrapped: Leederville, it will give us an opportunity to get our designs in front of the market and gauge feedback in the perfect setting.” Igor and Katja will unveil their new summer range “Cut outs for summer” at Unwrapped: Leederville. ”We will be selling our latest matched collection of futuristic boy‐girl apparel. We love Unwrapped because it gets us out there, in front of industry professionals and fashion lovers; we like the former to know we exist and the latter to delight in our labour of love.”

So if you are in the market for one‐off pieces that will knock the (festive) socks off even the most discerning of your friends and family, make tracks to Leederville on 19 December.

Have you heard about Faux Pas? Well you should have! Faux Pas is a fresh new Perth fashion label with alot to offer. Matt and Andy are the creative minds behind the label, bringing you t-shirt designs that are a little edgy with a splash of neon. I had a quick chat with the boys about the creation of the label and where to find it, so make sure you have a read.

What compelled you two to start Faux Pas, and what is it all about?

Matt: “For me it was about being able to actually put my ideas on a “canvas” – in this case, t-shirts. It was about designing something which

She Said Yoo Hoo

It’s been around for less than a year but if you haven’t heard about She Said Yoo Hoo then come out from under that rock and take a look! Started by Lauren Boyle after winning the Attitude Magazines Emerging Talent award for 2007, this label boasts graphic prints, quirky designs, and different pattern designs, all coming together to in clothing that is “unique, yet very wearable”. I had a chat with Lauren about her label and here’s what she had to say:

What are your inspirations?

My inspirations are rather varied. I get really inspired by art movements like German Expressionism and Fauvism; I love their use of colour and
