Rebellion Der Träumer – Rebellion of the Dreamers

Innovation. If there is a quality that separates the good producer from the ground-breaking, innovation is surely it, and these boys have it in spades. The lovechild of a chance meeting near the Baltic Sea, the now Hamburg based project of Christian Hilscher and Nico Plagemann has risen to new heights of notoriety since the November release of their debut album, Rebellion der Träumer. Featuring a number of immaculate feature tracks separated by subtly nuanced interludes the album is simply sublime. Upon release they dominated Beatport’s Top 100 in not just one, but four genres. From deep house to dub step the duo have demonstrated a degree of well executed versatility rarely encountered, but always appreciated. Maintaining the same attention to detail and carefully crafted textures iconic of their earlier deep and tech-house releases, this venture across genres plays like the soundtrack to a surrealistic epic.

The live sound these guys produce is nothing short of amazing, When Nico and Christian start working the crowd, it’s like somebody dumping a bucket of energy on the dance floor. Kollektiv Turmstrasse makes music for the moment and for eternity.

It’s time for a break – a Major Break (the return of breakbeat). Like Red Rooster, Saved by the Bell and Roxette, it looks like the masses have decided breakbeat is back ‘in’.

We know better – it never went out.

Delivering the goods every year, you can bet your last bookie buck Boomtick will bring you substance over style at our annual winter party. Breakbeat is our bread and butter; what better way to bring it to you than through with artists who stylistically span the genre with more grunt than a pair of truck nuts:

As dubstep grows at an unprecedented pace to become one of the freshest new sounds on the planet, a stack of top quality artists from the UK scene have journeyed down under recently, bringing Australia the most upfront sounds of the underground. The last 12 months in particular has seen a real influx of A-grade DJs and producers in clubs around the country, and after the undisputed kings of the sound DMZ visited us last month for the first BASS NOTION party another one the of the scenes greatest DJs; N-TYPE is venturing to Perth to tear it up.

Voted best dubstep DJ two years in a row (2007 and 2008), which he describes as an honour and mixing several seminal CD compilations (RINSE and DUBSTEP ALLSTARS) N-Type represents the legendary FWD>> club in London, foundation label Tempa and his own imprints Terrain Records, Sin City & Wheel & Deal.

Prevalent in the scene since early in its inception N-TYPE has seen pretenders come and go but is consistently at the top of his game. His sets are always varied yet always concentrate on good vibes and giving the best music and talent the recognition they deserve.

“There are so many different styles of dubstep coming out of producers. This is the nice thing about it, the variety. You can find what you like, whether it be energetic dancefloor madness, reggae bubblers, deep, haunting half-step rinse outs, intricate melodies, progressive in-your-face techno, chilled smoking vibes, right through to vocal skankers. The one thing it all has in common is a massive weighty bassline!”

Boomtick presents DCUP @ Ambar

What: Boomtick presents DCUP

Where: Ambar

When: 24 June 2011

Cost/Ticket details: $25+Bf, Boomtick shop

An A cup is fine if that’s your thing, but let’s be honest – it’s all about the DCUP.

If you ever wondered what you could bang out in a year, check out DCUPs ‘done’ list. In 12 months, he made a huge name for himself in the NuDisco scene in no small part to a wee little ditty with Yolanda Be Cool, ‘We Speak No Americano’. With a freaky unique brand of club ready, dancefloor heavy disco breaks, power synths and sugar-coated hooks, he’s turning up in a wide range of record bags.

The latest signee to Ajax’s record label, Sweat it Out, DCUP has drawn comparisons with Treasure Fingers, Miami Horror and Shazam. There’s no turning back.

His EP dropped, the major labels have come, wallet in hand, looking for DCUP to add his dose of funk fuelled disco to their releases, and everyone wants more. ‘We No Speak Americano’ totally took the world by storm, rocking clubs from the UK to Brussels to NYC, whilst in Australia receiving commercial radio play and topping the tastemakers ARIA Club Chart.

With an alternate techno moniker, HiBeams also on the cards, there’s no knowing what this man will come out with next, other than getting stuck in your head and rocking you all night at the Home of the Underground.
