Hippo Camp

This Saturday night Hippo Camp is playing Maybe Zombies Will Help at The Norfolk Basement (event info here). Since you’ll be coming along I thought I’d better let you know what I know about Hippo Camp, and maybe then you’ll understand why he’s playing! For starters her runs Warm Kitten (website here), where you can get some hand picked gems to listen to, good way to keep in the loop about all things low tempo, funky and enjoyable. Hippo Camp isn’t a one trick sea-pony (snap!) he’s got a fair bit of talent as a dj, if you want some proof take a listen to his Spring 2010 mix below.

It doesn’t stop there either, Hippo Camp’s solo production and production work with Odim is also pretty exciting. I’ve linked his latest track – but I encourage you to go check them all out on his soundcloud page.

Maybe Zombies Will Help feat. Hippo Camp @ The Norfolk Basement

What: Maybe Zombies Will Help feat. Hippo Camp

Where: Norfolk Basement

When: 30 October 2010

Cost/Ticket details: 7, 5 with costume

We all know Zombies aren’t good at much, except for cheap labour/entertainment (Shaun of The Dead, 2004), but they’ve definitely kept me captivated through numerous documentaries about their species (e.g. Zombieland, Dawn of The Dead, Resident Evil 1-4 etc…). Long story short, we thought we’d hold a celebration of their kind on Saturday 30th of October at The Norfolk Basement. However, to ease any zombie-related fevers/headaches/anger we’re going to spin some relaxed indie/disco/filter-house beats.

Headlining our celebration is super-star underground Perth producer Hippocamp. He runs Warm Kitten (http://warmkitten.blogspot.com) and has the skills and track selection to keep any zombie-filled dance floor heaving well past the stroke of midnight. In support we have Spaks (recently returned from the US, where he played Burning Man), your hosts Bouncy Castles and a very special Halloween set from Zombies!

If you dress up, in zombie-costume or any pro-zombie attire (i.e. anything Halloween), you can get in for a fiver!

Rule #32 Enjoy the little things.

Perthquake, Scenic and Warm Kitten proudly present the first ever MAYBE DANCING WILL HELP!
We are being told that the Perth club scene is dying if not already in the ground. This may or may not be true, but that’s okay, because Fremantle is the new (and wildly more fun), Perth. With that in mind WA’s premier electronic music blog PERTHQUAKE has rallied up a few talented performers for a night of debauched disco, nefarious nu-disco and… fuck I’m sorry I’m totally rambing… we just wanna have a fun night with some good tunes. And providing those good tunes will be:
TABULARAZA, with their first ever completely LIVE show (none of this playing off Ableton). This up-and-coming duo craft the kind of dreamy, fun, grooving synth-disco jams that will literally prevent you from doing anything other than dance. To get an idea of what you’re instore for, visit their myspace

Tabularaza (Myspace)
And supporting these lads will be good friends and disco fiends in their own right, HOLY THURSDAY, HIPPO CAMP and of course your hosts, the PERTHQUAKE DJs.
We’re all getting pretty tired of a club scene that appears to be imploding on itself, and Fremantle is there for the taking. Full of eager kids who just wanna party, we need to unite to form what will be a fucking awesome Friday night.
From 8pm til 12am at the Norfolk Basement, the party jams kick-on at King Tito’s Dirty Disco at the East End Bar.
It’s early days yet, so keep your eyes peeled for a spanking new flyer and *fingers crossed* possibly even some transport from the big, dead smoke for those too scared to tackle the 15 minute trip southward.
There’s a burgeoning scene of damn cool producers rising up and making dancing fun again, and we look forward to showcasing it for you come June 18!
