Music review

Super sample session

Friday night was the most fun I’ve had in a long time, not only because I hadn’t been out in a while, but because I got to hear and see a load of stuff I wouldn’t usually seek out. From the funky sounds of The Brow Horn Orchestra, to Tom Thum’s amazing linguistic abilities to Sampology’s very nice visual monster mash. Everything went well together and it was great to see something different at Razar. Enjoy the promo for Sampolgy’s Visual Monster Mash Tour before you read on. Full review after the jump…

Befitting his position as the leading figure of the Dutch new wave, Afrojacks success stretches far beyond his home turf, and 2010 has seen him rise to become one of the most in demand DJ/Producers of any nationality.

His most recent single, ‘Take Over Control ft. Eva Simons’, is currently one of the hottest club anthems on the planet, hitting #2 on Beatport, and reaching over 1 million views on Youtube.

He’s rocked the world’s biggest floors including Pacha Ibiza, Miami Ultra Music Festival and Electric Daisy Carnival in LA, and his rise to fame as a producer has brought him a roll call of A-list champions – from Pete Tong to David Guetta, and Josh Wink to Fedde Le Grand. His journey has seen him collaborate with some of the world’s most respected producers and artists like David Guetta, Steve Aoki, Diplo, Kid Cudi, Pitbull and Black Eyed Peas.

Ruby Rose @ Limelite

What: Ruby Rose

Where: Metros Freo

When: 1 April 2011

Cost/Ticket details: $25+bf, heatseeker

RUBY ROSE was once a door bitch, student and model and is now the face, voice and disc-spinning hands of a generation. You can see her gracing every fashion bible, trash read, tv channel and at LIMELITE on Friday April 1.

From MTV brat to darling of the red carpet Ruby Rose has surpassed IT girl fame and is making her mark behind the decks. When not planning world domination she is dropping tunes at some of Australia’s hottest clubs, parties and festivals. Even spinning tracks at renowned LA club XIV and putting it on wax for a compilation album with Grant Smillie called “Neon Essential”.

Ruby brings her partner in crime Grant Smillie along for the ride. Acclaimed producer, radio host and record label owner Smillie is one of Australia’s most in demand DJ’s and one half of chart topping and hit making TV ROCK. With 2 ARIA awards under his belt and gracing the airwaves on Pete Tong’s Essential Selection what’s not to love about Mr Smillie?

Producer of delicious big room, progressive and tech-house tracks and nominated for International Dance Music Awards for his superhuman remixing skills Michael Woods is one to watch. He kickstarted 2011 by smashing out the Ministry of Sound – Residents compilation after a summer residency for Cream at Amnesia in Ibiza and a personal invitation from Deadmau5 to join his infamous 2010 UK tour. We expect even bigger things to come and that’s why we bring him to the bighouse so you can get a taste.

Expect nothing short of a heaving party at LIMELITE on Friday, April 1. Supported by our resident Zelimir and duo Props Box. Doors open at 9.30pm.

Aston Shuffle & Mowgli @ Razar

What: Aston Shuffle & Mowgli

Where: Metros Freo

When: 25 February 2011

Cost/Ticket details: 15/20 door sales

RAZAR rarely sees the light of day preferring to drench his senses in the dark. Finding himself most content within a club’s confines where debauchery and beats prevail. Razar is preparing for another night of utter misbehaviour on Friday, February 25.

Evil forces combined to become The Aston Shuffle. The battle for planet earth has begun. Which side are you on? They are the punters pied piper, princesses of progression and …they have arrived. The Aston Shuffle will twist you into all kinds of positions, but they love to be on top.

Their dynamic Nu-Rave sound has been shot all over the faces of clubbers worldwide and just as importantly over the crème of the international dance music producing fraternity. Having supported the likes of Digitalism, Justice, Busy P and Jesse Rose. They are a force to be reckoned with smashing it out at virtually every recent festival and dominating the 201O inthemixtop50 polls as #1 DJs. They absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are all dancing.

Mowgli wasn’t raised in the jungle. He was raised in Italy with a cheap keyboard, sampler and musical yearnings. From an adolescence of illegal rave parties delving into the depths of graff and hip hop to London. There he grew expanding and experimenting in the underground House scene. Now immersing himself in deeper shades of house and techno, smashing it with his label Deadfish and gracing decks at Europe’s coolest clubs and festivals. Mowgli: not bad for a jungle kid.
