At the Helm of Stones Throw Records for the last 15 years, Peanut Butter Wolf has led the independent hip hop and funk scenes with a roster of highly successful artists including Madlib, J Dilla, MF Doom, Dam-Funk, Mayer Hawthorne and Aloe Blacc. A highly skilled DJ and producer himself, Peanut Butter Wolf will deliver a special live VJ / DJ set drawing exlusively from his extensive collection of weird and wonderful music video clips.

Signing to Stones Throw in 2007, James Pants has since gone on to release two full length LPs of cosmic funk and new-new-wave music. Heavily influenced by the early-80s electro boogie, post-punk and early rap scenes James simply describes his sound as “fresh beat”. He will present his spectacular and at times hilarious live dj set at the Bakery incorporating live percussion and vocals.

Rhythmatism feat. Teebs @ The Bird

What: Rhythmatism feat. Teebs

Where: The Bird

When: 31 March 2011

Cost/Ticket details: $10, door sales

After some heavyweight international guests in recent months (Lorn, Waajeed), the {move} family are back with another very special edition of our monthly get-together, Rhythmatism at The Bird. We are excited to welcome TEEBS from the Brainfeeder collective on his first visit to Australia, and hear the incredible sounds emanating from his trusty SP-404.

Teebs released his debut album late last year – Ardour on Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder label. Ardour (defined as “great intensity and warmth”) is a fitting title for an album embraced by fans of ‘beat music’ seeking musical beauty and texture; melody as well as the ever-present low-end bass and beats.

Also a talented visual artist, Teebs’ paintings create the same warmth in their aesthetic, adorning the covers of his releases as well as the walls of homes and galleries worldwide.

Teebs is a beloved and deeply rooted member of the Los Angeles musical community. He is a regular musical contributor to respected online radio station, dublab; resident at the fantastic, progressive musical night, Futura; and is a member of the emerging My Hollow Drum musical collective.

Musical vibrations at Rhythmatism! 10! also come from Ta-ku (Paper Chain), Maxy Bills (The Community) and the resident {move} folk.

Rhythmatism is a regular event brought to you by {move} to share future music from the past and present. It happens monthly at our musical home, The Bird.

Waajeed breaks the cage

Waajeed truly rocked The Bird on Saturday night. I know {MOVE} gigs are well respected in the Perth scene, but this was excellent. The Bird is a great venue to run nights like this, even if people don’t know who Waajeed is, they could walk in to a full room and get a quality party out of it. The way the night ran was smooth, having a support dj play for a few hours gives him the freedom to slowly build the night. The piece de resistance was picking a quality act like Waajeed. I’m telling you now, get down to any future {MOVE} night, you won’t regret it. Full review after the jump…

TRUS”ME (Fat City | Manchester | UK)

$5 ENTRY — 8PM — PLEASE GET DOWN EARLY!!!

Joining musical forces to bring you a night of boogie, funk and house music heavy-weights, discoINCORRECTO! and {move} proudly present Trus’me – one of Manchester’s latest producers to take the dance music world by storm.

In the winter of 2006 on a whim David Wolstencroft aka Trusme sent some of his work to various labels around the globe, it paid off. The now legendary cd sampler “Nards” led to the immediate release for Trusme on the Still label sparking the beginning of a promising musical career for one very talented individual. Since, having collaborated with legends such as Chez Demier, Amp Fiddler and Dam Funk, and releasing music on his own Prime Numbers imprint from the likes of Move D, Actress, Mr Scruff, Linkwood and Reggie Dokes, Trusme has proven himself an integral part of the Manchester scene.

Surrounded by the heads of Manchester and its deep routed scene his musical tastes evolved from very early on with an eclectic mix of influences from the deep techno and house sounds of Detroit to classic US disco and funk, and UK bass aesthetics. His production has been compared to Moodymann and other such Detroit luminaries with releases snatching feature spots and record of the week in many outlets from Piccadilly Records in Manchester to Jazzy Sport in Tokyo. “Like bookends some 12’s will work with both the beginning and end of the night the night, such is the classy sampling from Trusme” (Peter Nicholson, XLR8R). He has picked up support and admiration from all the right d.js and producers such as Ashley Beedle, Mad Matts, Juan Atkins, Chez Damier and Gilles Peterson, who first championed him on Radio 1 saying,” if there was ever a house record made for me, it would sound like this`”

In 2007 Fat City Recordings released his debut album entitled “Working Nights” with a host of what were to become classic tracks re-enforcing the Trusme sound. This has led to an array of Trusme remixes being requested from acts such as LCD Soundsystem, Amp Fiddler, Dabrye, Motor City Drum Ensemble, Alton Miller and Anthony Shake Shakir. Trusme has also become a highly in-demand dj and has been touring extensively in the U.S and Europe over the last two years. He has developed a reputation for thoughtful and eclectic sets, representing his sound and open-minded musical tastes.

Trus’me plays the Bird Friday 28th of Jan with support from Rob Blanford and Ben Taaffe. Tickets are only $5 on the door from 8pm. Please come early to avoid the line out the front.

He creates his sound by layering obscure samples, glittering melodies and deconstructed hip-hop beats with soothing oriental textures.

Clark @ The Republic

What: Clark

Where: The Republic

When: 6 November 2009

Cost/Ticket details: TBA

Hearing Clark’s tracks is very exciting, he’s on Warp, the label of Aphex Twin and Squarepusher, some of the coolest experimental electronica artists there are. For me, this is incredibly exciting music, it’s so all over the place, kind of like my writing, and I think that’s what draws me to it, I don’t know what to do! Just go have a listen to the tracks on his myspace.
