Return to where it all began

There couldn’t have been a better way to conclude what was another stellar year in Perth for drum ‘n’ bass and dubstep music than Origin New Years Eve. Over the last twelve months we’ve had some amazing artists from each genre visit our shores and rock the shit out of our clubs and on the final eve of 2010 Origin was set to take it up yet another notch. This year saw the event scale back from the more typical festival set up of the previous two years and return to it’s home, the magical Belvoir Amphitheatre – a change welcomed by many. Break it down for the full review.

Music review

Start of new era

Isn’t this title clever? It’s the new decade, and the night was Origin. Maybe it wrote itself! We (Tom, Aleksia and I) decided just prior to Origin that we’d each cover different parts of the night. By ‘we decided’ I mean Tom suggested he help, Aleksia was going to see the hip hop artists and I was only there for part of the night, so I thought we’d better do it this way! haha. If you check below you’ll get three different stories from the same festival, but across the board we all enjoyed it immensely.

Music interview

Roots Manuva

UK hip-hop legendary Roots Manuva is coming to Perth for New Year’s Eve, and he’s excited.  “It’s mad there, man!”  On his last trip here, Mr Rodney Smith (as he is otherwise known) played at the Fremantle Arts Centre.  “In an old mental institution!  It was a mad show!”

Wow Knowledge music are putting on another awesome multi-genre festival! There’s hip-hop, DnB, dubstep and electro. With Method Man being one of the headliners I think this will be such a massive party, there really won’t be too many places that would be better than this for NYE, unless like Knowledge have said you’re so loaded you have your own flying boat (not sure if that just means if you have enough money to ‘think’ flying boats exist, or flying boats do exist and they’re very expensive). Full line up after the jump…
