Summer to Begin @ The Norfolk Basement

What: Summer to Begin

Where: The Norfolk Basement

When: 3 December 2010

Cost/Ticket details: 10 door sales, proceeds to ICEA Foundation

Hi. Are you ready for December 3?

Because you’re coming.

Thyme (herb) to rhyme (verb)…

This will be the first official weekend of Summer so Warm Kitten has joined forces with Perthquake to shake the Norfolk Basement like an earthquake.

The plan is to throw down the soundtrack to your summer – bigger than a Hummer, so hot you’ll need a hose down, As we go nuts for coconuts and tango like a mango.

The birds and the bees of spring are getting tired, students are on holiday and the festive season is about to get fired…

…Into oblivion (doesn’t rhyme).

Basically, there is no better place to be come Friday December 3 As we get stuck in for SUMMER TO BEGIN!!!

But wait there’s more! Proceeds are going to a great cause – straight

to the ICEA Foundation to help out the kids in the far north.

Zombies help

Maybe Zombies Will Help was a bloody success, but before getting into the details of our night of mayhem you need to know the winner of our double pass to Good Vibrations! Well that’s him on the left in the picture above, Jon Knight, dressed as Tallahassee from Zombieland (played by Woody Harrelson). His lateral thinking within the zombie theme, his baseball-bat at a bar and the phrase “nut up or shut up,” won him the double pass to Good Vibrations. If you were brain dead enough not to attend our night and have a shot at the double pass don’t stress because you can get tickets from the Good Vibrations website (here). Full review is after the jump…

Maybe Zombies Will Help feat. Hippo Camp @ The Norfolk Basement

What: Maybe Zombies Will Help feat. Hippo Camp

Where: Norfolk Basement

When: 30 October 2010

Cost/Ticket details: 7, 5 with costume

We all know Zombies aren’t good at much, except for cheap labour/entertainment (Shaun of The Dead, 2004), but they’ve definitely kept me captivated through numerous documentaries about their species (e.g. Zombieland, Dawn of The Dead, Resident Evil 1-4 etc…). Long story short, we thought we’d hold a celebration of their kind on Saturday 30th of October at The Norfolk Basement. However, to ease any zombie-related fevers/headaches/anger we’re going to spin some relaxed indie/disco/filter-house beats.

Headlining our celebration is super-star underground Perth producer Hippocamp. He runs Warm Kitten (http://warmkitten.blogspot.com) and has the skills and track selection to keep any zombie-filled dance floor heaving well past the stroke of midnight. In support we have Spaks (recently returned from the US, where he played Burning Man), your hosts Bouncy Castles and a very special Halloween set from Zombies!

If you dress up, in zombie-costume or any pro-zombie attire (i.e. anything Halloween), you can get in for a fiver!

Rule #32 Enjoy the little things.

Maybe Dancing Will Help 3 feat. Bastian’s Happy Flight Dj Set

What: Bastian's Happy Flight Dj Set plus Live Sax

Where: Norfolk Basement

When: 3 September 2010

Cost/Ticket details: 7, door sales

Perth has a rapidly growing scene of young and exciting electronic producers in the field of disco/house/boogie/good times and Perthquake is doing everything it can to get them out to anyone looking for some good tunes to get their groove on. With that in mind it’s time for the third installment of Maybe Dancing Will Help, coming to you once again from the warm surrounds of the Norfolk Basement on Friday 3rd September. It’s a night that started out as a one-off, but the response gets warmer each time; first for nu-disco band on-the-rise Tabularaza and then disco/house maestro Pils. We are beginning to feel a duty to help people kick their Friday’s off in the funnest way possible once a month.

This edition features the jazz-tastic stylings of Bastian’s Happy Flight, better known to some as FKN MIDAS, with help from his good friend Jack Doepel (BOOM! BAP! POW!) on the saxophone. Midas is currently working on expanding his own productions into a full live-band setup, but to give a taste of what to expect will be combining forces with Doepel to get some jazz up all in your sax. Anyone who has seen these two spinning their magic together will know it’s a guaranteed good time disco-boogie-funk extravaganza not to be missed.

Support on the night comes from some of the sharpest DJs in the disco toolbox, with Perthquake proud to announce Sleepyhead and Friend down for their first ever MDWH, and of course your hosts for the evening, Bouncy Castles.

This week Perthquake recommends…Voting!

This weekend it’s all about partying hard and voting like you mean it. Since I might have a few peoples attention I might as well get preachy for a second… Don’t do a donkey vote like I was planning to do, go find out about who the candidates are, since you’re forced to vote you might as well make it count! Rant over.

Yolanda Be Cool & DCUP @ Ambar (Fri 20 August)

I’m sure this night won’t be one you want to miss. Expect plenty of funky house, bouncy beats and good fun. Support from Blend, Apres-Ski, Oli and Micah.

Knowledge First Birthday feat. Dj Marky @ Villa (Sat 21 August)

It’s been a year of intense, heavy hitting and packed nights from Knowledge. I know Tom and Pat (Perthquake writers, not randoms) have raved about every event they’ve been to and have enjoyed the variety and quality of acts Knowledge has brought to Perth. Dj Marky is no exception and I know Villa will a great way to celebrate Knowledge! Support from Shockone, QBIK, Muller & Access with MCs Xcessive and Tenacity.

Japan Four feat. Nick Thayer @ Ambar (Sat 21 August)

This guy has worked with so many quality artists and released on so many quality labels, as well as being well known for his club sets. If you’re up for a big dance the hit Ambar on Sat night. Support from Fdel, Marty Mcfly, Philly and Tee El

Cold Blank @ Ambar (Fri 13 August)

Banging electro house anyone? Cold Blank at Ambar is the place to be this Friday night. As I’ve said before I’ve always had a soft spot for Cold Blank tracks and they don’t just do banging beats, there are some great remixes of well known dance tracks which keeps any electro audience interested. Support from Signal Drivers, Grantley Hyde, Tha Nightcrawlaz & Alex Tong.

Richard Vission @ Limelite (Sat 14 August)

I’m sure you’ve heard the electro-house track I Like That and seen the video in your early morning tv adventures. Whether you like the track or not I predict a pretty good party vibe at Limelite this week. Support from big house favs Zel and Mel B.

Midnight Juggernauts @ Capitol (Sat 14 August)

Pretty excited about this one, I haven’t listened to their album too much, but they’re good at pushing new territory in dance music. I don’t really know what else to say, I mean these guys are a great asset to Aus music and you’d be sorry if ya missed them! Support from Dappled Cities and Voltaire Twins.
