Friday MixUp – Pils

Hey Perth people, just a quick introduction before i get started. My name is Rhaine aka Audageous and i have taken over the reins here at Perthquake to help get you into the mood for the weekend by bringing you the Friday afternoon MixUp. Consisting of your weekly DJ fix coming from a variety of talented artists around Perth playing a variety of different genres, keeping it fresh. The first Friday of every month will showcase a more established artist but every other Friday will be filled by anything that gets you moving for the weekend, be it a killer live set from one of P-town’s favourite nightspots or just a smooth bedroom mix from a young up and comer. This post promises to bring you everything that’s good about the Perth DJ scene.

Enough Jibber Jabber for the time being. This weeks DJ set i had the pleasure of hearing live at Maybe Dancing Will Help at the Norfolk Basement.

Music interview

Pils

As you may know this Friday night is the second Maybe Dancing Will Help feat. Pils (event info here). Pils’ production isn’t limited to one genre, he dabbles in disco-house, dubstep and drum n bass. However we’ve got him down for Friday night because his disco-house skills are impressive. I had a quick Q&A with Pils and got some basic info for those of you who are curious about the Perth producer. While you get the latest goss have a listen to Mr Shuffles Funk. Any other tracks and mixes can be found on Pils’ soundcloud. Full interview after the jump…

What got you into djing?

House parties, warehouse raves and rocking out mixtapes during school. I saved up to buy a mixer & a cheap pair of decks when I was 18 & my bros mate leant me a few crates of jungle records (circa ‘97-’01), cheers flood!

Perthquake.com.au presents the second Maybe Dancing Will Help feat. Pils

After the success of the first Maybe Dancing Will Help (feat. Tabularaza) we’ve decided to throw down installment number two. The packed dance floor, happy people and great music made us realise we were going to have to throw another party. So here we are again, this time The Norfolk Basement welcomes the disco-house styling of Pils (http://soundcloud.com/pils/).

We’re eager to show Perth punters the depth of talent that exists in our hometown. We’re handpicking the best Perth artists pushing disco-house into the hearts of dance music appreciators. I can guarantee Maybe Dancing Will Help won’t ever disappoint.

Pils is a Perth based producer, was a Run Rabbit Run resident and is a super smooth dj. He doesn’t just limit himself to disco-house, he’s also been pushing dubstep and drum&bass tracks into Perth’s electronic music scene. Since he began producing he’s created more of a buzz than a naked man with a gun. It’s easy to see why when you hit up his soundcloud and have a listen to White Rabbit and Mr Shuffles Funk. Billboards all over the country will soon cotton on to the phenomenon… of Pils. I mean who doesn’t want to begin their weekend with a bang?

Support will be provided by the always-impressive Black Swan (Run Rabbit Run), music history lesson Hippo Camp (Warm Kitten) and party starters Bouncy Castles (Perthquake).

When you’re in a pit of winter despair put your dancing shoes on, Maybe Dancing Will Help.

Pils

Without a review this week I thought I might bring your attention to a great Perth producer – Pils. Although I know him for his disco-house numbers Mr Shuffles Funk and The White Rabbit, he also produces a few dubstep/drum and bass tracks. The remix of Royksopp’s Tricky Tricky is pretty enjoyable – and I’m not even a dubstep fan. Pils has held a residency at Run Rabbit Run before it sadly ended a few months ago. Never fear though because I have a strange feeling Pils will be playing somewhere as a headliner soon…

For now enjoy streaming Mr Shuffles Funk.

Another great track from Pils – this is a work in progress, but once again it has caught my imagination and kept me in awe of the growing Perth disco scene. Kept this nice and short to drive home the point you should just download the track and enjoy it!

Once again I’m stealing stuff of Scenic but I’m hoping they think this just shows how awesome they are! haha Anyway I put up a Pils mixtape late last year, and was promised there were production pieces on the way, well I found one of the production pieces! It’s called “White Rabbit.” A lovely smooth track, perfect for those evenings in lounge bars, with lots of smoke, pretty women and other great music. As scenic pointed out, Perth really has a phenomenal dance music scene, slowly building, so get on board for some smooth sexy beats and enjoyable times.

This came into my inbox the other day, and I’m about promoting Perth so I want you to take a listen to Pete Easton’s new mix. This should happen more often Perth djs/producers! And there are some awesome tracks in this set, full tracklist after the jump
