MDWH 6 feat. Carl Fox & Scenic

What: Carl Fox & Scenic

Where: Norfolk Basement

When: 11 February 2011

Cost/Ticket details: 10, door sales

Perthquake’s monthly Friday night party at the Norfolk Basement continues February 11, with a special pre-St Jeromes Laneway party to kickstart another big summer weekend. After the last instalment featured a bunch of our good friends taking over the decks for a night of DJ party fun, this edition we’ve decided to get some live music back in the house with two of Perth’s most exciting indie-electronic artists.

First up is he of Good Little Fox, the one and only CARL FOX. Under his own name Carl rocks a full-live band playing indie-pop/rock songs with healthy splashes of electronica. Last year saw him release his debut LP Chunky Rainbow to much critical acclaim, along with an invitation to play at the One Movement Festival in October.

Supporting him on the night will be a band you definitely need to keep your eye on in 2011 and beyond, SCENIC. Since changing their name from Tabularaza in late 2010, things have moved rather rapidly for the exciting young four-piece. Their track, This Can’t Be, pricked the ears of French house superstar Joakim, who quickly snavelled it up and released it on his Tigersushi label in December 2010.

Last but not least we have our lovely DJs for the night, ready to keep the tunes going in the gaps – GRUBBY and Suburban Leisure. Party-starter extraordinaire and two lanky bastards respectively.

Cya later Tabularaza, you’ve been given a clean slate, with the name Scenic, effectively ruining any puns I had intended to make. Wondering what I’m talking about? Well, there was a band called Tabularaza and now they’re called Scenic. Don’t worry they’re still my friends, but they just got a new name. Why you ask? Well they felt like it and thought it was better suited to what they do (disco/house stuff). It was an important decision because they’re officially releasing on Joakim’s Tigersushi label! This Can’t Be will be out soon as part of Tigersushi’s ‘Periculum’ series of 12″s. Have a listen to it… then send them some facebook ‘like’

When: 18 June 2010

Perthquake, Scenic and Warm Kitten proudly present the first ever MAYBE DANCING WILL HELP!
We are being told that the Perth club scene is dying if not already in the ground. This may or may not be true, but that’s okay, because Fremantle is the new (and wildly more fun), Perth. With that in mind WA’s premier electronic music blog PERTHQUAKE has rallied up a few talented performers for a night of debauched disco, nefarious nu-disco and… fuck I’m sorry I’m totally rambing… we just wanna have a fun night with some good tunes. And providing those good tunes will be:
TABULARAZA, with their first ever completely LIVE show (none of this playing off Ableton). This up-and-coming duo craft the kind of dreamy, fun, grooving synth-disco jams that will literally prevent you from doing anything other than dance. To get an idea of what you’re instore for, visit their myspace

Tabularaza (Myspace)
And supporting these lads will be good friends and disco fiends in their own right, HOLY THURSDAY, HIPPO CAMP and of course your hosts, the PERTHQUAKE DJs.
We’re all getting pretty tired of a club scene that appears to be imploding on itself, and Fremantle is there for the taking. Full of eager kids who just wanna party, we need to unite to form what will be a fucking awesome Friday night.
From 8pm til 12am at the Norfolk Basement, the party jams kick-on at King Tito’s Dirty Disco at the East End Bar.
It’s early days yet, so keep your eyes peeled for a spanking new flyer and *fingers crossed* possibly even some transport from the big, dead smoke for those too scared to tackle the 15 minute trip southward.
There’s a burgeoning scene of damn cool producers rising up and making dancing fun again, and we look forward to showcasing it for you come June 18!

There’s a very cool Perth blog I actually knew about, but didn’t really know about, until three weekends ago. It was an uneventful night at shape, except towards the end of the night I had a young guy come up and ask if I was the Perthquake guy, I get really excited when this happens because I feel like people know what Perthquake is, and trust me it doesn’t happen often. I even dream that one day I will be a Perthonality… Anyway that’s besides the point, this young man was one of the five guys who contribute to Scenic. It’s a Perth music blog letting you know about the coolest electronic music there is.

I’ve been regularly visiting and have also been pleasantly surprised at the selection of tracks. I’d say it’s mainly nu-disco, french house and indie dance but then I’m rubbish with genres! I highly advise you to go to Scenic because it’s well worth the few moments of your time, and like me you might even find some cool new tracks to listen to. Also keep your eyes out for Tabularaza (contributors to Scenic) who will be playing the Republic next Friday night).
